What is Inventoriana?

Inventoriana provides a unique and revolutionary way for digitized images to be shared and described by individual users, users within any defined group, or between groups. With Inventoriana's sophisticated tagging system, the detailed commentary that helps you describe what you see is no longer separated from the images themselves and can be written into the actual images in as many layers as you want. Using a state-of-the-art application of Google Maps, the Inventoriana interface changes the way that scholars and students can encounter, study, and enrich the digitized collections of libraries across the globe.

With Inventoriana, you can:

  • Upload your own images and view them using Inventoriana's Google-maps-enabled interface, empowering you to zoom and focus clearly on any part of your image.
  • Access thousands of pages of materials that have been uploaded to Inventoriana by other users and institutions.
  • Insert an unlimited number of in-image searchable tags to any images you want to describe.
  • Define what categories of information you want to store and track with your in-image tags.
  • Selectively share your images, tags, and discoveries with as many or as few users as you want.
  • View complete revision histories for every shared item in Inventoriana.
  • Share images and information to collaborate on large projects.
  • Search the tags of all shared images on Inventoriana, allowing you to define and limit searches to specifically tagged in-image features.
  • Stay in control, because Inventoriana allows each user to control who gets to see your images and/or tags.
  • Protect your images, because Inventoriana users can view and share their images online while still preventing others from downloading their images.
